Every crater on the moon is a record of something that hit it and a surface with no weather to erase them, so four billion years of impacts are still sitting there in plain view. That is the idea Mare carries: a surface that keeps everything it has been through, and is more interesting for it.

The texture is built up and cut back by hand in solid .925 sterling silver, then oxidised so the craters fall into shadow and the ridges between them catch the light. This kind of surface is something cast rings cannot hold, and because the finish is applied by hand, no two pieces are ever identical. You feel it before you see it: 7 grams of silver, 9mm wide, with the interior polished smooth against the finger so the texture stays on the outside where it belongs. Stamped and hallmarked. Never plated, never filled.

Oxidised silver is not meant to stay pristine. It darkens in the recesses and brightens where you touch it, so the ring slowly records the years you give it, which suits this one more than most.
